The Secret Room Behind Mount Rushmore

The Secret Room Behind Mount Rushmore

By now I hope that anyone reading this quick article has heard of Mount Rushmore. If you haven’t seen it in person -- don’t worry because I haven’t either.

Recently, I have seen several conspiracy blogs and Instagram accounts posting images about the alleged secret room behind Mount Rushmore. A lot of conspiracy theorists have made different claims as to what the room actually is. Some say it has hidden files from Area 51 and others believe it holds all the secrets of the Free Masons. However, none of these post list the facts that we already know about this room.

The artist behind Mount Rushmore was Gutzon Borglum. One thing that worried Borglum about the sculpture is that one day Mount Rushmore would be considered a mystery. He was concerned about this because of the mysteries behind Stonehenge and the pyramids.  Specifically, Borglum wanted to ensure that in the future, people knew how Mount Rushmore was made and it would not remain a mystery such as the pyramids and Stonehenge.

To make sure people knew in the future what the Mountain was there for, Borglum developed a giant room behind Abraham Lincoln’s hairline. This room would hold important documents such as the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

The room would go unfinished after Borglum passed away in 1941. However, the story didn’t end there. In 1998, Borglum’s family got the government to put in tablets that would explain the reasoning behind the mountain and the room.

If you ever make it to Mount Rushmore, don’t plan on visiting the room because you can’t get there by a quick hike. This story serves as a reminder that in this day and age, don’t question a conspiracy without doing some quick internet research to determine its accuracy. If you don’t find anything questioning the theory or story, then keep looking. We challenge you to question everything.
