In Homestead, Florida, there is a museum that is rich with history and surrounded by mystery. It's called Coral Castle and what makes Coral Castle so unique is that it was built by one man who was just 5 feet tall, weighing just 100 pounds with no modern machinery.
Edward Leedskainin began what was originally called Rock Gate Park when the woman he was going to marry called off the wedding the day before. He decided to make a monument for the woman he loved. He would spend 28 years building the castle without showing people how he was able to move the large coral rocks.
When asked how he was able to move the rocks without machinery, he would say that he learned how to master the laws of weight and leverage. Ed would say that he knew the secrets of the pyramids.
I lived in Homestead Florida until Hurricane Andrew hit in 1992. My family would take us every now and then to walk around Coral Castle. My mom would tell us the background story about Ed and how no one knows how one man could build such a park. I encourage anyone that's traveling through Homestead to make the stop to see this mysterious place. See some great photos on Instagram #Coralcastle.
