In 2016, a coworker (we will call him Jim) stopped me and said that his friend’s son was finding large footprints on his property. I didn’t believe him and originally thought he was pulling my leg because coworkers often poked fun at my interest in the unexplained. The teasing was especially harsh when it came to Bigfoot because everyone knew I made a documentary on the subject the year prior.
Jim said they had pictures he had taken with his phone, which I asked him to send to me. A few hours later, Jim sent me the photos. In the photos, I could see that there were tracks in the snow that looked like a giant human footprint. This led me to believe that Jim wasn’t just messing with me. So, he gave his friend’s son my number so that we could set up a day to come to his property.
Jim’s friend’s son (we will call him Jason) texted me during the follow days with new updates as to what he was seeing. This included videos and photo evidence that was similar to Bigfoot activity. I let Jason know that Kenny and I would be there to investigate on Saturday.
The following weekend, Kenny and I made our way from Morgantown to the location in Preston County to see if there was evidence of a Bigfoot. We pulled up to Jim’s house where he was waiting with a few other coworkers who were going to go meet Jason to see the location of the activity.
Jim drove us over to Jason’s and we rode UTV’s through the woods to get to the old coal mine opening where all the footprints were found. Once we got to the location, we made our way up the hill toward the coal shaft. That’s when we could see large, man-like foot prints in the mud. This was especially strange because it was winter and the temperature was around 40 degrees.
After finding the footprints, we continued our trip up the hill, which is when we saw a tee pee-like stick structure. This is something that is frequently found around areas that have Bigfoot activity. No one knows for sure what they really are because some are big enough to sleep in and some are smaller. The one thing they have in common is that the tree branches used to make them have no cut marks and appear to be twisted or snapped off.
As a team, we decided to wait a few hours in the dark to see if anything came back to the coal mine. Kenny and I sat back in silence while the others watched from a distance. However, nothing happened and the evening was uneventful.
I have always been open minded when it comes to things that can’t be explained. This includes sightings of Bigfoot. I think that there are a lot of misidentifications when it comes to Bigfoot, but not all. Jason would call me a week or two later and tell me the stories that he just heard from the neighbors that lived within a mile who claimed to have seen the creatures. However, like most people, the neighbors didn’t want the world thinking they were crazy. I have to say because of all the evidence I saw that day that it is very possible that a Bigfoot has made its way through Preston County, West Virginia at one time or another.
