In Parkersburg, West Virginia you can find a statue in Riverview cemetery that some believe holds special powers. The statue belongs to the relative of the famous Stonewall Jackson. When visiting the cemetery, you will find the statue in the back of the graveyard. The statue is of a woman leaning over a gravestone with a very upset look on her face as if she’s crying.
The legend has it that those with a pure heart can touch the statue, make a wish, and the wish will come true within one year. However, only those with a pure heart will get their wishes granted. She’s also known for her alleged fertility powers. Women have claimed for years that after they were having trouble conceiving they would go to pay the weeping woman a visit and become pregnant within the year.
I visited the weeping woman with my wife and Kenny to shoot some test footage for News From The Fringe. I have to say that the graveyard and the statue have a weirdness to them if nothing else. My wife touched the weeping woman and her wish came true within 6 months, which was a big wish I might add. I also made a wish, but it was not granted. So, I’m either not the pure at heart type or the legend is just a legend. The question is: are you going to visit the weeping woman to find out?
